Better game by Arbuckle despite pedestrian stats. He had some good seam throws, good speed on his ball, and a few deep throws to keep the defense honest. He had a great first half, very average second half and his throws to the left are still an issue. The 4th quarter interception throw was unacceptable. It was casual and the kind of throw starters don’t make.
Split back worked well, with White being able to pick up blitzes and Foster releasing for passes. I'd love to see more Foster runs out of this set but respect is due for John White. He ran the ball hard all game and set the tone in the first quarter. The DJ Foster touchdown run was excellent.
It was an uneven night for this positional group. Collins Jr had a great return with 60 yards and Rogers had some big contested catches. Brissett dropped and kicked a TD into an INT and he has to watch out for the bad rookie habit of jumping for passes when you don’t need to. Worthy did not run full out on the deep post that should have been a touchdown. This group can be great but they aren’t yet.
Terrific bounce back by the line. They kept Arbuckle upright all game and were able to run the ball effectively. Peter Nicastro had a terrific game at center, good pass pro and excellent run blocking, maybe a few high snaps but an outstanding performance, best unit on the field.
Great pressure from the line and the Hamilton running game was nonexistent. Eli Harold flashed all game and had a good coverage sack. And in a continuing building to all star quality, Shawn Oakman, who I will now call The CN Power had two sacks and delivered great inside pressure, a rarity for the Argos; his second sack was teach tape stack and shed. A poor 4th quarter knocked the crew down from an A.
Like the defensive line, this unit dominated all game. They stuffed the run and took away the underneath pass game. Muamba had a fantastic pick, and Judge played one beautifully but had some defensive hands on it. It was Judge’s best game and is becoming common for the D. Muamba also crushed a guy. It looks like they were caught watching on a hurry up snap for the Hamilton TD and were washed out.
Missing Butler, the crew had some issues with the rookie, Josh Hagerty. He blew the play on Hamilton’s first TD, and nearly gave up another one at the end of the half. Edwards timed the snap on a huge sack but his failure to wrap Acklin on the 3rd and 10 catch is unacceptable. Decoud added in some terrific coverage on the Hamilton change of possession dagger after the interception.
The unit held Williams in check all game which was a huge focus and helped the team win. Bede kicked his one field goal chance and his final punt was a boomer that buried Hamilton. However, another punt block is no good. It looked like Declan Cross did not pick up the rusher. Return game is still average. Free Trey Williams.
First off, Dinwiddie went with the stubble over the beard which was a great call, more weathered poet than math teacher. The team was in control and ready to go after a wild Monday and that is a credit to the staff. They had a great defensive game plan and a great first half. Also, smart challenge on the DJ PI.
